Protestors thrown out of Scottish Parliament after accusing SNP members of supporting IRA

Two protestors were thrown out of the Scottish Parliament after accusing the SNP of supporting the IRA.

Police escorted the men from the public gallery as Nicola Sturgeon watched, clearly baffled, from the debating chamber.

Yelling from the gallery, the protester addressed the FM as “Brigadier Sturgeon”, adding: “Why do so many in your party support the IRA?”

Holyrood business was suspended briefly by presiding officer Ken Macintosh.

One man singled out Nationalist backbencher John Mason, who was previously forced to apologise for saying IRA killers could be “freedom fighters”.

The Glasgow Shettleston politician also said he “will not speak up for” residents who support Orange marches.

Nicola Sturgeon branded the protest as 'bizarre' (Getty Images)

A spokesman for the First Minister said he would not dignify the “bizarre intervention” with a formal response.
