Protesters to fly infamous Donald Trump baby blimp to Ireland for US President's visit

The Donald Trump baby blimp will be sent to Dublin for the US President’s visit, it was revealed yesterday.

The inflatable will take to the air on Thursday as thousands of protesters gather for a series of rallies across the country.

Campaigner Memet Uludag of Stop Trump Ireland said: “It will be up and flying in advance of the rally.”

The president, who arrives tomorrow, yesterday toured Buckingham Palace on a state visit to the UK.

The six-metre high orange nappy-clad, Trump crybaby blimp will “attract a large audience”, Memet Uludag of Stop Trump Ireland insisted yesterday (Mon).

Thousands are expected to attend the ‘Stand Up to Trump’ rally on Thursday at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin’s Parnell Square.

Mr Uludag told the Irish Mirror yesterday (Mon): “The organisation Uplift, [a UK civil rights advocacy group] is coordinating this [the Trump baby blimp] right.

“I’m not sure about the means of transport but it will be [arriving] on Wednesday at some stage; they have the permissions and all the stuff [organised].

“It will be stationary in that place [Parnell Square] for the duration of the day, that’s the plan anyway.

“And at some point on Thursday afternoon a team of Uplift activists, who are part of the Stop Trump Ireland coalition, they will be inflating it and setting it up on Parnell Square.

“I don’t know the exact details of how it is done but it will be [visible] at some time in the afternoon before the rally begins on Thursday at 6pm.

“I’m sure it will be up and flying in advance of that obviously, by 4pm or 5pm maybe.

“What the plan is after the rally in Dublin I’m not sure.”

Mr Uludag, who is originally from Turkey, said 35 organisations have joined the Stop Trump Ireland campaign and the blimp is a good way for people to express their opposition.

He added: “The number is growing, it is migrant groups, community groups, housing groups, women’s groups, LGBT, anti-war, anti-racism and political parties.

“The headline image seems to be that blimp and it has been previously the symbol of [Trump] protests.

“It will probably be one of the most photographed items at the rally I would think.

“And I think it will attract a large audience.

“It’s something that will be flying above the city and it is witty and funny in some ways and I’m happy it’s coming to Dublin.

“It is one of the symbols in terms of his unpredictable tweets and expressions and it’s definitely a symbol that [resonates] with people.”
