Protesters swarm South Dublin Garda station demanding release of man arrested en route to demonstration

Protesters have descended on a South Dublin Garda station after a man was arrested on his way into a demonstration today.

The arrested man is currently being held at Rathfarnham Garda Station, where crowds have since gathered outside this afternoon allegedly demanding his release.

A sizable Garda presence is said to be keeping watch outside the station, and Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that the organisation of the rally will be investigated.

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a demonstration outside Rathfarnham Garda Station which appears to relate to the arrest of a man on foot of a bench warrant that was executed earlier today, 25/10/2020.

"The man is currently detained at Rathfarnham Garda Station.

"An investigation focused on the organisers of this protest is now underway.

"The advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be sought in respect of any further actions to be taken."
