Miles from Minneapolis where George Floyd, 46, was killed in police custody, thousands of protesters gathered in Berlin, London and Toronto on Saturday to demontrate against police brutality and racial injustice. FRANCE 24 reports.

Dozens of protesters gathered in front of the American embassy in Berlin with banners sporting slogans like “Black Lives Matter,” “No justice no peace” and “I can’t breathe”.

“I can’t breathe” were some of George Floyd’s last words, heard in the footage of his death as policeman Derek Chauvin pinned him to the ground with his knee on Floyd’s neck. Chauvin has since been charged with third-degree murder.

The calls against racial injustice were also heard in the London borough of Peckham – partly to show solidarity with Floyd but also to point that the UK isn’t innocent when it comes to racism.

“We’re doing this because we’re angry. We feel like our voices haven’t been heard,” said one protester.

In Toronto, thousands of people marched peacefully against racism in protest at the death of a black woman who fell from her Toronto apartment balcony on Wednesday while alone with police officers who had been called to her home.
