Protesters climbed onto the roof of an Israeli-owned factory in support of Palestine

Protesters climbed onto the roof of an Israeli-owned factory in Oldham in support of Palestine.

Police were called to the Ferranti Technologies factory just off Greenacres Road at 6.30am on Monday.

Campaigners climbed onto the roof of the building and displayed banners which read 'Israel is killing protesters every week' and 'UK: stop arming Israel'.

Activists stood near the front gates and chanted in support of Palestine.

Specialist police negotiators and firefighters were at the scene.

GMP confirmed no arrests were made.

The factory was bought by Elbit Systems, an Israeli-based defence company, in 2007.

Since then, several protests have taken place outside.

Campaigners said they wanted people to 'wake up and see what's happening' in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has seen Israel occupy the West Bank and Gaza Strip for more than 52 years.

Protester Adie Mormech said: "I was there; I saw it up close.

"I was a teacher in Gaza for two years and one of my students was killed.

"I was talking to her not long before. She had two babies."

He added that he wanted to see a 'two-way arms embargo' between the UK and Israel.

Janet Hawkes, another campaigner, said: "We want to send a message to the UK government.

"We want Elbit out of Greater Manchester."

The factory have declined to comment.
