Protester blinded during Black Lives Matter marches has 'no regrets'

A protester who was blinded in one eye while protesting in Black Lives Matter rallies said she has "no regrets".

Nia Love took part in peaceful protests on the streets of Sacramento in California for the Black Lives Matter movement when she was shot with a rubber bullet which caused her to lose vision in one eye.

During a video appearance on Good Morning Britain on June 11, Nia said she had been involved in the peaceful protests for around three or four hours before she was shot with a rubber bullet.

She said the pain was "indescribable".

Nia said: "Up until then it was peaceful, we were out there for about three or four hours and then there was something that happened that kind of agitated the crowd and so they sent more police out.

"They sent like, I would say, 20 more police officers out and then the crowd was actually saying 'hands up, don't shoot' and I was actually walking away, I was walking towards the sidewalk and I turned around to see where my brother was at and that's when it hit me."

She spoke of how she'll have to change her entire life due to the effects of her injury, but confirmed she has no regrets in taking part in the protests.

Widespread protests have broken out across America and in the UK in the wake of George Floyd's death.

African American Mr Floyd was killed when a white police officer pinned him to the ground and knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes during an arrest on May 25.

46-year-old Mr Floyd could be heard telling officers he couldn't breathe.

Nia Love's lawyer Lisa Bloom said her client's injury through excessive police force is an "appalling violation of her constitutional rights."

She wants the law to change so police can't fire rubber bullets into crowds and injure innocent people.
