Protest to take place as Paddy Jackson returns for first match on Irish soil since trial acquittal

A protest is set to take place in Cork next weekend as Paddy Jackson returns for his first match on Irish soil since his high-profile trial, Cork Beo reports.

The now London Irish signing will likely join the squad to play at Independent Park against Munster in a pre-season friendly on Friday.

The peaceful protest already has over 100 people who have said they will attend.

If the fly-half is to be selected it would be the first time he has played competitively in Ireland since he was acquitted of all charges in the Belfast trial in 2018.

Jackson signed for Perpingnan in France last season but earlier this year made the move to London Irish where he linked up with former Irish boss Declan Kidney.

London Irish sponsor and Guinness owner Diageo pulled out of their deal with the English club after the signing of the former Ulster man.

The club said in a statement: "London Irish’s management is understandably disappointed that Diageo has chosen not to renew its sponsorship agreement with the club, and particularly the manner in which the company has chosen to do so.

"The club has always respected the right for everyone to have an opinion, and their right to express that opinion."
