Chikkamagaluru district unit of Karnataka Janashakti organisation has decided to hold a protest meeting in front of the taluk office at Koppa on Monday, urging the taluk administration to grant land for the needy. Residents of over 100 villages are expected to take part in the meeting.
In a press release, K.L. Ashok, state secretary of Karnataka Janashakti and honorary president Gous Mohiyuddin said that hundreds of people had applied for land under the Karnataka Land Revenue Act seeking suitable land for housing and cultivation purposes.
For several years, the applications remain pending. The successive government assured them a grant of land and on many occasions, several applicants lost money in the form of bribes paid to officers. However, their demand had not been fulfilled.
The organisation conducted a bike jatha in 102 villages on March 24 and 25 to spread awareness among the people on this issue, the organisation said.
