The South African national editors' forum (Sanef) has protested at the arrest of journalist Hein Coetzee, who works for the Afrikaans daily tabloid Kaapse Son. Coetzee, who was investigating stories of police brutality, was detained after trying to question police about the allegations. He was charged with possessing a shotgun cartridge, which he claimed had been left by a policeman at a local resident's house. A Sanef statement accused the police of "vindictive retaliation".
