Reporters Without Borders, the Paris-based press freedom body, has joined with the Burma Media Association in calling for the immediate release of renowned Burmese journalist U Win Tin. He was arrested in Rangoon on 4 July 1989 and sentenced to 20 years in prison for "anti-government propaganda". Win Tin, aged 76, has suffered two heart attacks in prison. The two organisations issued a statement praising Win Tin's courage in continuing to support freedom of expression and democracy. (Via Reporters sans frontières - ASIA)
