Prostate cancer support group finds new home

The West Lothian Prostate Cancer Support Group is moving to a new home after 10 years.

Meetings had been held at the Ability Centre in Carmondean but the group will soon move to Crofthead Community Centre, Templar Rise, Dedridge.

It will hold its first meeting on August 1 and will welcome Professor Robert Reuben from Heriot Watt University to explain the new project to test for prostate cancer using an electronic plastic finger pulse to replace the traditional finger test.

The local support group is managed by and for men with prostate cancer.

The support system of ‘buddies’ enables patients to talk to members either at a meeting or on the phone.

All have, or have had prostate cancer and are undergoing various forms of treatment.

Charlie Hogg from the group said: “The member share experiences of diagnosis and treatments, while hearing how other patients and carers are coping.

“This is vitally important to help men make a decision on a choice of treatment.

“We have also recently added a ladies section to the group to help partners understand about treatments and to ask questions around prostate cancer by talking to other lady members.”
