The University of Newcastle's Callaghan campus was buzzing with activity at the weekend as prospective students and their families got an insight into the work of the academy in the Hunter.
Year 12 Cooks Hill Campus student Emily Robinson was interested in pursuing Environmental Science after taking a project-based learning route to her high school studies.
She was excited to get better acquainted with the campus at the weekend, and said the chance to pursue her field was well suited to the Hunter.
"I'm excited to make an impact on the world," she said.
In the Great Hall, Sydney Year 10 student Abi Wilson had come up the motorway with her dad, Craig, to look into studies in law and medicine.
Mr Wilson was an alumni of the university and was hoping his daughter would follow his lead.
"It's beautiful," Abi said of the campus. "And it's very big. There's a lot to offer."
"It's a great option," Mr Wilson said.
The annual open day is one of the most significant events on the campus calendar, with some 5000 visitors expected at the weekend.
The weekend's event included a free all-ages live music festival, a mini book fair and student craft markets, alongside 90 study information sessions, and 60 hands-on activities.
