Prosecutors: Teen shot man over Facebook post about slain rapper Young Pappy

June 12--A 17-year-old boy shot a man over a Facebook comment about slain local rapper Young Pappy, according to prosecutors.

Germel Dossie was in the back seat of a car around 1:10 p.m. June 1 when he spotted a 22-year-old man standing on a corner in the 7600 block of North Ashland Avenue in Rogers Park, according to Assistant State's Attorney Akash Vyas.

Dossie recognized him as the person who had made a comment on Facebook about Shaquon Thomas, who rapped as Young Pappy and was gunned down May 29 in Uptown, Vyas said. He did not say what the comment was.

The driver parked near an alley and waited as Dossie, carrying a large gun, ran toward the man and shot him three or four times, Vyas said. Dossie got back in the car and demanded to be driven away and was later dropped off at Glenwood and Pratt avenues.

The man suffered several gunshot wounds and remains unresponsive and on a ventilator at Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Vyas said.

Dossie, of the 1300 block of West Columbia Avenue, was charged as an adult with aggravated battery and attempted murder. During a hearing Thursday at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, he was ordered held on $1 million bail.

Dossie was arrested Tuesday by the fugitive task force. His arrest report lists him as a self-admitted member of a gang.

Thomas, who glorified gun violence and gang life in his music, was killed in the 4800 block of North Kenmore in the Uptown neighborhood. Thomas, 20, was the target of two previous shootings and was involved in a police standoff earlier in the month.

No one has been charged in Thomas' killing.
