Dec. 15--A Belmont Gardens woman was arrested after prosecutors said she fled police at high speeds with her two toddlers in the car.
Carmen I. Ramos, 21, was speeding north on Cicero Avenue near West Diversey Avenue and driving on the center striped median just after midnight Sunday when police attempted to pull her over, according to Cook County court records.
Ramos, driving a 2010 Ford Fusion, kept speeding and swerving, blowing through a red light at West Belmont Avenue in the process, court records state.
She eventually headed the wrong way on North Kilpatrick Avenue before police found her in a nearby alley, according to court records.
Ramos' 3-year-old and 4-year-old sons were found in the back seat of the car with no seat belt or car seat, court records state.
Ramos, of the 4000 block of West Oakdale Avenue, faces a bevy of citations, as well as a felony aggravated fleeing charge, according to court records.
She was also charged with driving on a suspended license and child endangerment, both misdemeanors, court records state.
Ramos was ordered released on her own recognizance Sunday in bond court.
The children were left in the care of a passenger in the car at Ramos' request before she was arrested in the 3500 block of North Kilpatrick, according to court records.
Ramos told police she did not pull over because she was scared, court records state.
"When asked about the erratic driving on Cicero before (police) attempted to pull the vehicle over, she stated that she argued with her boyfriend and was mad," court records state. "So she floored it."
