Feb. 03--Los Angeles County prosecutors are holding off on a decision to charge a former "Power Rangers" actor in the fatal stabbing of his roommate with a sword, officials said.
Prosecutors asked Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department detectives for "further investigation" before they decide whether to charge Ricardo Medina, 36, with murder, said L.A. County district attorney spokesman Ricardo Santiago.
Because Medina won't be charged Tuesday, he likely will be released by the end of the night.
Authorities say the actor and his roommate, Joshua Sutter, 36, got into an argument on Saturday that turned into a physical fight inside their house in the 3800 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road in Palmdale.
Medina retreated to the bedroom with his girlfriend, but Sutter followed them and forced the door open, according to the sheriff. In the scenario described by authorities, Medina picked up a sword that he kept next to the door and is alleged to have fatally stabbed Sutter once in the abdomen.
Afterward, Medina called 911. He stayed at the house, authorities said, and was interviewed by homicide detectives and booked into county jail.
The actor starred as the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger on the "Power Rangers Wild Force" series in 2002 and voiced the character Deker on "Power Rangers Samurai" in 2012-13.
Before his "Power Rangers" work, Medina had minor roles in "CSI: Miami" and "ER" and was also a contestant on "Kept," a reality television series.
