Prosecutors: East Chatham woman fled police, struck another vehicle

Dec. 01--An East Chatham woman is charged with felony aggravated fleeing after she sped away from officers who pulled her over Saturday evening and then crashed into another vehicle, injuring the two occupants inside, prosecutors said.

Charde Abbott, 27, was also injured in the crash, which Cook County court records state took place around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of East 77th Street and South Yates Boulevard in the South Shore neighborhood.

The occupants of the vehicle that Abbott struck, a 70-year-oldman who was driving and a 58-year-old woman, were taken to Jackson Park Hospital after the collision, according to court records.

The driver was stable after suffering "blunt force injury," according to court records, while the passenger suffered injuries to the head, neck and back. Her condition was unknown, according to court records.

Both victims were from Sauk Village, according to court records.

Abbott was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, according to court records, and did not appear in bond court Sunday.

Abbott was driving west on East 79th Street with her high beams on when she passed an eastbound police officer, according to court records.

The officer turned around to follow her and saw Abbott turn north onto South Cregier Avenue without using a signal, court records state.

The officer pulled Abbott over, court records state, and as the officer got out of the squad car, Abbott drove away.

She went through multiple stop signs during the chase, according to court records, and the police deactivated their lights but watched her flee east on 77th at a high rate of speed.

Police searched the area and found that Abbott's Kia sedan had collided with the victims' Chrysler sedan at 77th and Yates, according to court records.

Abbott was unconscious at the scene but later told police she did not have a driver's license before refusing to answer any further questions, court records state.

Police had issued an investigative alert to detain Abbott in connection to a fraudulent checks incident, according to court records.
