Prosecutors drop remaining corruption charges against SA detective

Peter Dawe Martin outside court in Adelaide.

Prosecutors have dropped the three remaining corruption charges against a South Australian detective who was accused of leaking confidential information to the media, bringing an end to legal proceedings against him.

Peter Dawe Martin, 57, has stood trial in Adelaide's District Court on 10 counts of abuse of public office relating to information which he gave to Channel 7 reporter Michelle Vella and News Corp journalist Nigel Hunt in 2012.

At the time, Mr Martin was working in the Major Crime Squad which investigates serious crimes including murders.

Last month a jury found him not guilty of seven of the charges but was unable to reach verdicts on three of the counts.

On Friday, Mr Martin was listed to be arraigned to stand trial on the remaining three counts but instead the prosecution dropped the charges against him.

During the trial, prosecutors failed to prove that the leaks amounted to improper conduct and Mr Martin knew he was not authorised to pass on sensitive information to the media.

Mr Martin has previously said that he was relieved and "not at all surprised" that he was acquitted of the charges.
