Prosecutors: Cafeteria manager stole $50K from Waubonsie Valley H.S.

Nov. 30--A contract employee who managed the Waubonsie Valley High School cafeteria has been charged with stealing more than $50,000 from the school by skimming cash from lunchroom sales, prosecutors said today.

Kristy Davis, 48, who worked for food service contractor Aramark, was ordered held in lieu of $30,000 bail Sunday morning after being charged with felony theft, according to a release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

Davis, of the 3800 block of Junebreeze Lane in Naperville, stole the money between Oct. 3, 2013 and May 23 this year, prosecutors said.

In her job as manager, Davis made daily bank deposits of money that came into the cafeteria at the west suburban school, 2590 Ogden Ave. in Aurora, prosecutors said. Instead of depositing the cash, she would instead take it, sometimes also taking checks that she would add to later deposits to make it look like she was depositing the right amount, prosecutors said.

Aurora police, who prosecutor said uncovered the thefts, arrested Davis on Friday.

Waubonsie Valley High School cooperated in the investigation, prosecutors said.

Emails sent to School District 204 and Aramark officials requesting comment were not immediately answered.

Davis, who appeared Sunday morning before DuPage County Judge Robert Miller, is due back in court Dec. 28, prosecutors said.
