Prosecutors: After sex, man fatally stabbed and beat victim, stole his Mercedes

Jan. 29--A 31-year-old man had sex with a man after drinking and doing drugs with him, stabbed him more than 45 times, beat him with a statue, then later stole his credit cards and Mercedes-Benz and tried to light his body on fire to cover up the killing, prosecutors said.

Lloyd A. White's body was found in the basement of his residence in the 3900 block of North Spaulding Avenue around 11 a.m. Aug. 31, 2015, authorities said. Donald Arrington has been charged with murder in his killing.

Arrington had dinner Aug. 28, with White at a Golden Nugget restaurant on the North Side. The two met again the following night for drinks at White's apartment, where they smoked marijuana and used cocaine, prosecutors said. At some point, the two had sex, and soon after, Arrington beat the 51-year-old White with a statue and stabbed him more than 45 times in the neck, head and body, prosecutors said.

After White died, Arrington left the apartment and met up with another person. They both went to the apartment to steal a laptop computer and credit cards. After the two tried to light White's body on fire, they took off in his Mercedes-Benz, prosecutors said.

The two eventually abandoned the Mercedes in north suburban Lincolnwood and went on a shopping spree at several stores using the victim's credit cards, prosecutors said.

Two days later, one of the victim's friends discovered his body, police said.

White was found naked and bloodied with several stab wounds to his head and body. A bottle of lighter fluid and broken pieces of a statue were found near the body, prosecutors said. White died of multiple stab wounds, with the beating a contributing factor, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy.

An investigation revealed Arrington had sold the victim's laptop computer to someone for $100, and the person had taken it to a pawn shop. The transaction was captured on video surveillance at the store, prosecutors said.

Arrington, of the 6900 block of South Dorchester Avenue, was taken into custody Wednesday in the 1500 block of East 72nd Place, according to the police.

During questioning, Arrington admitted to beating White with a statue and stabbing him multiple times. He also told officials he had stolen a laptop and a Mercedes-Benz. He said he tried to burn White's body to conceal the crime, prosecutors said.

At a bond hearing Friday afternoon, Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois order Arrington held without bail.
