Pros, cons, and conspiracies: The Browns 2019 schedule

The Browns schedule has been released and we can start diagnosing the pros and cons of it. There are some positives, negatives, and even some conspiracy theories to be had! Let’s take a look:

The Browns should start strong out of the gate

The biggest leak prior to the release appeared to be an opening Monday Night Football matchup with the New York Jets. There were multiple storylines to be had, ranging from Gregg Williams’ facing his former team to Odell Beckham Jr. being back in New York. It is also the 50th Anniversary for MNF and the two teams that started the tradition were the Jets and the Browns.

Naturally, the NFL decided to make this the Week 2 matchup instead of the opener. Instead, the Browns open up with the Tennessee Titans at home. Regardless, both of these games should favor Cleveland which would have the Browns at a 2-0 record going into their prime time Week 3 matchup with the L.A. Rams.

Division matchup gets shafted

NFL players have made it very clear that they do not appreciate Thursday night games. The Browns get to play their Thursday night game in Week 11 this year against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will be the second divisional game of the year for Cleveland and their first against the Steelers.

A divisional matchup, that late in the season, will be vital for Cleveland’s quest for the division. It raises some eyebrows that the NFL would give both teams just four days rest by scheduling it on Thursday night, especially considering its importance.

Put your tin foil hats on… it’s the Patriot way

Conspiracy theories are fun, whether you believe in them or not. They make for good discussion and what-ifs. Get ready for more of that, as fans have long speculated that New England has gotten special treatment from the league. This year the Browns travel to the northeast in Week 8.

The conspiracy: this is one week before the Browns are slated to have Kareem Hunt arrive after serving his suspension.

The conspiracy theory falls flat though because the Browns already have the hyper-talented Nick Chubb along with a ridiculous amount of skill all over the offense. Kareem Hunt is just icing on the cake. The Browns shouldn’t have to worry, but still… it makes you wonder.
