Proposed operator revealed for gym planned at former Waitrose site in Wollaton

A proposed operator has been revealed to run a gym earmarked for the former Waitrose site in Wollaton where a Lidl supermarket is set to open later this year.

Plans for the gym, which have now been submitted on behalf of Lidl, state: "The unit will be operated by Energie Fitness, which, unlike other gyms, do not provide access to the facilities 24 hours a day."

If the development is approved, the Trowell Road gym is expected to be open from 6am to 11pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 7am to 7pm on Sundays.

According to the fitness company's website, it has a wide range of gyms across the country including one in Derby.

Nottinghamshire Live reported in February that a number of additional units were proposed as part of the Wollaton site's revamp.

A Post Office could also reopen and there has been interest from several fish and chip shops, according to the property consultant FHP.

Meanwhile, a Lidl spokeswoman said the new supermarket was due to open before Christmas.

She added: "Our ongoing expansion and store opening plans across Nottinghamshire underline our long-term commitment to the region.

"This is especially important now, recognising the extremely important role that supermarkets are playing in providing local communities with access to food supplies and essentials."

Waitrose closed in November last year.
