Proposed demolition of former bowling club in Perthshire being considered for second time

A company director has submitted a fresh application to Perth and Kinross Council asking for permission to demolish a former bowling club in Scone in order to build new homes on the site.

The local authority denied Joe Bryce of Glasgow-based Tradecast Building Services consent to knock down the old Scone Bowling Club building on Balformo Road last year over concerns he was attempting to cram too many houses on its grounds.

Mr Bryce originally asked for permission to build four four-bedroom homes but planning officers refused after concluding the proposal constituted an overdevelopment of the site.

The application drew 11 objections during a public consultation, including one from a representative of local girlguiding groups who questioned why they were not given an option to buy or lease the land or the club’s buildings before Mr Bryce made his plans.

He has now sent PKC a second application to demolish the club house but has only asked for permission to build three houses on the site this time around.

His latest application has already attracted one letter of support from a local resident who says the site has deteriorated into an “eyesore” since the club closed in 2017.

The resident said in a note to PKC: “Negative comments were made by some residents of Scone who live nowhere near the proposed site [during the last public consultation] and I failed to see how it could possibly affect them.

“It is my opinion that the proposed new dwellinghouses will provide three families with quality accommodation.

“At the end of the day we all live in homes that at some stage needed planning approval.”

The application awaits further comments from consultees.
