Proposal to prohibit vehicles from being driven on a section of Silvertonhill Avenue

Views are being sought on a proposal to prohibit vehicles from being driven on a section of road in Silvertonhill Avenue, Hamilton.

South Lanarkshire Council’s Roads and Transportation Services will consult residents and drivers who use the stretch of road between Johnstone Road and Chestnut Crescent.

This measure was identified as part of various off-site road works associated with Hamilton Community Growth Area.

It seeks to reduce the volume of through-traffic within the High Patrick Street and Chestnut Crescent/Abercorn Drive corridors and encourages traffic to use the A723 corridor from the development through the town centre.

The proposal would see the construction of a footway to physically “close” the road, although access for cyclists and pedestrians would be permitted.

Various locations were considered for the physical feature but, due to the location of driveways and the requirement to have a facility to turn vehicles, one specific location has been selected.

The consultation will be open until November 18, , during which time residents and users of the roads in the area of Hamilton can respond to a short questionnaire, which is available at https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=157053578908

In addition, an information event will be held in Woodside Primary School between 4pm and 9pm on Tuesday, October 22, where officers will be available to answer any questions and assist with anyone wishing to complete the questionnaire.

On completion of the consultation, the responses will be considered and the outcome will be advertised.
