Proposal disaster as new fiancé falls 650ft down cliff moments after saying yes

A woman fell hundreds of metres down a cliff immediately after agreeing to marry her boyfriend.

The couple agreed to tie the knot from the stunning vantage point at the top of Falkert mountain in Carinthia, Austria.

Unfortunately their romantic moment was interrupted when the 32-year-old fell 650ft over rocky terrain.

Thankfully she landed in a carpet of snow which broke her fall, Bild reports.

Her 27-year-old boyfriend tried to stop her from disappearing over the edge.

In doing so he also slipped off the mountain and fell just under 50 feet.

Through sheer luck he managed to cling on to a rocky ledge until help arrived.

A spokesperson for local police said: "The two of them were enormously lucky.

"The woman fell 650 feet over rocky terrain.

“If there hadn't been snow, the outcome would have been completely different."

The fiancé clung to the rocky ledge until he was rescued by an emergency services helicopter which lowered a rope down to him.

After he was rushed to hospital, he was diagnosed with a vertebral fracture.
