'Large quantities of drug and sex litter' found near city centre

A London property company has been slapped with an order to clean up a courtyard opposite Cabot Circus car park after ‘large quantities of sex litter’ was discovered there.

People living and working near the spot, between one empty office block and another building on Newfoundland Way at the bottom of the M32, complained the area was being used for drug taking and public sex.

The city council’s Neighbourhood Enforcement Team went to check out the empty office building, which is directly opposite the entrance to Cabot Circus car park, just a stone’s throw from the city centre.

They found the office premises, which have been empty for years, were insecure and had been broken into.

“Large quantities of drug and sex litter were found around the courtyard area of the building in full view of the general public,” a spokesperson for the team said.

“On closer investigation, it was found that people had broken into the building to shelter from view while carrying out these illicit acts,” she added.

The company which owns the empty office block is a London-based property portfolio company, which owns and manages the building.

The council said it had issued this company, which it did not name, with a Community Protection Notice.

This notice instructs them to carry out work to make the building and surrounding area safe and clean.

“We are already seeing improvements and we hope nearby residents and businesses are no longer affected by this issue,” she added.
