It might be the colour of love, but if you're thinking of giving your bedroom a romantic red makeover, think again.
Painting your walls a luxurious scarlet is a recipe for disaster and can even disrupt your sleeping patterns at night, according to a design expert.
Speaking to Tyla, colour specialist Nima Ghasri, who is director of GoodMove, explained bright colours like reds or oranges are too alarming for a space that's supposed to help you relax.
"These are too stimulating for a room where you need to switch off and sleep," she said, revealing that if you're struggling to find the right hue, navy is never a bad choice.

“If you really want a bedroom décor that will stand the test of time and look amazing, then choose deep blues and navy. These deep hues provide a sense of serenity and relaxation – perfect for a bedroom – and can help create a cosy environment too.”
When it comes to the kitchen, however, bright and breezy is the order of the day.
Nina recommends a cheerful yellow can make rooms feel bigger, as well as help people feel "happier and calmer while in the space".
Black and charcoal shades, conversely, should be avoided as they can make the room feel smaller.
The same rules apply for the bathroom, where a hot soak in a cheerful setting should be the perfect way to switch off after a hard day.
“Light blue has always been a popular bathroom colour as it helps to create a relaxing, peaceful, and spa-like atmosphere," said Nina.
"And with searches for ‘light blue bathroom’ increasing by a huge 614 per cent compared to this time last year, it shows no sign of going out of style anytime soon.”
