Property deal signed for £100 million Glasgow wellbeing project

Therme Group has signed terms with Peel L&P for the location of its second UK wellbeing project.

The spa retreat in central Glasgow will be constructed on Peel L&P's 21.5-acre site adjacent to the Riverside Museum, at the intersection of the Kelvin and Clyde rivers.

Therme is aiming to submit a planning application to Glasgow City Council early next year.

Therme Scotland is expected to be around 320,000 sq ft in size and to cost around £100m to build.

It will include an indoor water park, thermal pools and spa, along with a health and wellbeing centre. The project will also include a vertical farm supplied by Scottish agritech business Intelligent Growth Solutions, giving fresh produce for guests.

The group is looking at how it can introduce renewable heat sources and is considering both geothermal energy and water source heat pumps.

Plans include a bridge across the River Kelvin, linking the Riverside Museum to Therme Scotland and expanding access to the Glasgow waterfront. A second community bridge could also be built by Glasgow City Council over the River Clyde, between Govan and Partick.

Therme Scotland will be the group's second wellbeing destination in the UK after the £250m Therme Manchester project, which is also based on a site owned by Peel L&P.
