As the rain and hailstones lashed down outside in Edinburgh yesterday evening, one local pizzeria spared a thought for the city's homeless.
Hey Pizza, a takeaway based in Leith, has been praised by the community after closing up the shop early to hand out free pizzas to people sleeping rough.
In a post to Facebook, Lewis Thomson, Hey Pizza's co-owner, said: "We made up a batch of pizzas and headed out and gave the homeless a warm meal in this awful weather!
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, he said: "We donate ten pizzas each Monday to Steps to Hope (a homeless charity based in Edinburgh).
"We decided because the weather was so awful last night we wanted to give more back to the community and help those in need!
"We made up 30 pizza slices and hit the streets. All the people that received the food were so grateful and couldn’t have thanked us anymore."
Reacting to the post, which has now been liked over 500 times, one wrote "love this guys! Such a lovely thought", while another said "proper legends".
Hey Pizza also donate £1 per pizza sold to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.
