Proof that Paul George actually once said he was a Clippers fan (but it’s still confusing)

Paul George was introduced along with Kawhi Leonard as the newest members of the juggernaut-on-paper Los Angeles Clippers, and the ex-Thunder and Pacers forward shocked everyone when he said he grew up a Clippers fan.

Nobody believed him, especially because he also said Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was his “idol” too. Also, when PG was growing up, the Clippers were pretty terrible for a while.

But there’s actually some proof before he was an NBA star that he said he was a Clips fan. Thanks to NBC Sports’ Dan Feldman, who dug up this 2010 Draft Express interview that included this nugget:

With teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers (his favorite team growing up), Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks all looking for a dynamic swingman who can create, shoot and defend, the chance of George being picked in the 8-15 range looks very good at the moment.

And then there’s this 2012 tweet from George:

Now the Warriors are in the mix! Huh? Still, though, there are the Clips again.

But fans spent a lot of time digging up old tweets like this:

Finally, then there’s this tweet from 2017 via Pacers reporter Scott Agness:

So. Confusing. Maybe he should just say he loved both L.A. teams (or most of the California franchises?) and put this to rest. No shame in that!
