Proof that Jon Rahm should have listened to his caddie right before he blew The Players Championship

Jon Rahm was leading The Players Championship when he found a fairway bunker on the par-5 11th hole at TPC Sawgrass.

He and his caddie had a discussion before his second shot in which his caddie, Adam Hayes, tried to talk him into laying up, which everyone watching knew was the safe and right play.

Rahm, however, didn’t feel the same as everyone watching. Instead he felt like laying up would lead to a tougher angle on his next shot and he just didn’t want that. So he decided to go for the green in two, which proved to be pretty costly as he hit it in the water, had to settle for a bogey 6 on the par 5, and then never recovered on his way to finishing tied for 12th.

Here’s the conversation the two had and it’s pretty fascinating, especially the body language and facial expressions by his caddie:

Absolutely brutal.

Rahm has been known for having quite a temper and that sure did flair back up after that shot, as he seemed to have some angry words for his caddie, or just the moment in general, as they walked up to his next shot.

Rahm seemed heated the rest of the round, too. He bogeyed 15, parred the easy 16th, and then double bogeyed the iconic 17th when he found the water on his tee shot.

The winner, Rory McIlroy, got $2.25 million for the win. Rahm took home $253,125 for his t-12 so yeah, his mistake on 11 and the others on the way in proved to be pretty costly.

Next time he might want to listen to his caddie.
