Proof that David Moyes can deliver Champions League football to West Ham

Much has changed in the Premier League since Christmas Day; throughout the history of the competition, people involved with the game have used that date as a check point of sorts.

Arsenal in particular have been notably better since the festive period, with the Gunners now placed 10th in the table as the final stretch approaches.

Their chances of finishing in Europe stem from their showings since Christmas, with the graphic below capturing the level of Mikel Arteta's outfit.

West Ham have the second-best points-per-game average in the Premier League since Christmas behind only Manchester City (@DistanceCovered)

Impressively, only Manchester City have a better points-per-game average than the Hammers' 2.2, which edges out Leicester City's two per match.

Over the period in question, the Irons have averaged 1.6 goals per match which is the joint-fourth best, with their defence also ranking joint-fourth.

David Moyes on Man City, Michail Antonio and his contract

Moyes' team appears to be incredibly well-balanced at the moment at both ends of the field.

Jesse Lingard has made a difference of late, with Michail Antonio seeming ideally suited to occupying a defence and leading a line on his own. On the defensive side, the Hammers seem considerably more capable than most when required to soak pressure, with many other Premier League teams caving when having to manage waves of attacks.

If they continue in their current vein of form, it is not out of the question for Champions League football to take place at the London Stadium next season.

The gap between West Ham and Chelsea in fifth place is just three points, with Liverpool five points behind as Jurgen Klopp tries to get his team in order without a central defender.

It remains to be seen what the above table will look like once the final five games approach, but Moyes will have his eyes on Europe based on it's current state.
