Promoted Norwich City among three clubs interested in signing young Bristol City striker

Saikou Janneh has emerged as a surprise summer target for Premier League-bound Norwich City and Watford plus top-flight side Brighton & Hove Albion, according to reports.

The Sun on Sunday claim that Janneh has "caught the eye" of Norwich boss Daniel Farke who is preparing his squad for the Premier League next season but fellow promoted side Watford and Brighton are also admirers.

Janneh has played just 54 first-team minutes for the Robins this term and only featured sporadically for the Under-23s following an ankle injury. He was recalled from loan at Newport County in January, where he found the net twice in 12 matches.

The Gambian signed a four-year contract in 2019 meaning City have plenty of financial security should any bids be forthcoming but the 21-year-old is yet to prove himself at Championship level, let alone in the Premier League.

A clever penalty-box striker with a sharp turn of pace, the report also states Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin have shown a previous interest in Janneh.

Janneh became part of the City academy in 2018 after a successful trial - his second at the club - having previously played for Bath College and non-league Clevedon Town and Cadbury Heath.

He's been considered an excellent prospect at City but injuries have curtailed his progress.

During 2019/20, following a fruitful season on loan at Torquay where he scored 18 goals for Gary Johnson in the National League South, he sustained a knee injury days before he was due to sign for League One Doncaster on loan.

After recovering, Janneh was then earmarked to spend the second half of the campaign at League Two promotion challengers Swindon only to suffer an ankle ligament injury which ruled him out for the remainder of that season.

Robins boss Nigel Pearson handed Janneh his long-awaited senior debut against Sheffield Wednesday as one of several academy graduates who have been given first-team minutes this season during City's injury crisis.
