'Promising player' - Ex-Crystal Palace & Reading midfielder's verdict on Kyle Dempsey's Bolton brace

Kyle Dempsey looks a 'real promising player' for Bolton Wanderers this season following his performance in the win over Wycombe, according to EFL pundit Jobi McAnuff.

The Whites took the lead in the first half when Kyle Dempsey finished to give the Whites the advantage following good work from Liverpool loanee Conor Bradley. They doubled their lead just before the break when Aaron Morley slotted home from Dapo Afolayan's pass.

Dempsey added his second after the break as Wanderers ran out worthy 3-0 winners. It leaves the Whites third in the League One table after two matches so far.

Dempsey had a difficult start to life at Wanderers after arriving at the club at the end of the January transfer window. Injuries restricted the former Gillingham captain to 11 appearances in the second half of last season.

The midfielder is in a competitive area of the Wanderers squad. It boasts the likes of Morley, MJ Williams, George Thomason, Kieran Lee and Josh Sheehan, the latter of whom is nearing a first team return after being out since November with a ruptured ACL.

Dempsey bagged his first goals for Wanderers yesterday and is currently joint top scorer so far after two games with fellow midfielder Morley. The strike in the first half was his first goal since scoring against Wanderers last season with the Gills.

Speaking on the EFL highlights show on ITV4, former Crystal Palace and Reading midfielder McAnuff acknowledged Dempsey not getting as many starts at Wanderers last season. But now back fully fit, McAnuff believes the midfielder looks a 'real promising' player.

He said: "He didn't start many games last year. Only five since he got there until the end of the season. He looks a real promising player."
