A man labelled a "prolific" offender by police has been jailed after a wave of thefts from cars.
James Towey, of Stephenson Road in Newton-le-Willows, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on January 11, where the 37-year-old was charged with theft from a motor vehicle and handling stolen goods. He had previously pleaded guilty to the offences.
Towey was arrested on December 2022, after a warrant was carried out following reports of thefts from vehicles in Newton-le-Willows.

Items stolen by Towey included a tyre compressor, two coats, iPad Mini, Suede gloves, car charging lead, Caterpillar boots, two Makita drill bits, cable ties and a drinks bottle. Towey was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, and handed a fine by Merseyside Police.
In a statement, St Helens policing team said: "This fantastic result means that a prolific offender is no longer on the streets and able to commit crime in St Helens.
"The investigation may not have had this success without the help of the people of Newton and Earlestown.
"All of us at St Helens Police greatly appreciate the reporting of suspicious activity. If you discover someone in your street trying car doors or going up driveways, something that you might post on your community Facebook page, please report it to us as well.
"You can report non urgent suspicious activity online or via social media. We can send you a link for digital CCTV, it is quick and easy to upload your footage.
Even if your video doesn't enable us to identify a face, it can still show distinctive clothing and may provide the vital piece of the puzzle to identify those that choose to blight our town with criminality. With your help we can get results for our town."
