Prolific alcohol thief breaks into Popworld Bristol and makes off with booze

A prolific alcohol thief broke into an eighties nightclub on Boxing Day and stole five bottles of spirits - the fourth time he has been caught by police in six months.

Mohamed Yacub, of St Gregory's Road, trespassed in Popworld on Baldwin Street in the city centre.

The 33-year-old stole four bottles of gin and a bottle of vodka, worth a total of £90, before being arrested by police.

He admitted the theft at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Friday (December 27).

The conviction comes just a week after he pleaded guilty to another alcohol theft, stealing three bottles of port and two of vodka, worth £59 in total, from the Co-op in Gloucester Road.

He was ordered to pay £128 and given a six-week curfew after targeting the supermarket on September 17 and December 19.

And on September 30 he was jailed for 17 weeks after pleading guilty to stealing wine worth £57.50 from the Co-op in Gloucester Road again, on September 29.

At his latest court appearance on Friday, Yacub was told to complete a six-month alcohol dependency programme and pay a £90 victim surcharge.

He must now serve a 12-week curfew with an electronic tag. He cannot leave his home between 6pm and 6am, although he is allowed on his back patio.
