Projects to Liven Up Your Vacation Home

When getting away for a holiday from the stress of working, you would spend most of your time relaxing in the areas of your vacation home where it’s possible.

Whether your vacation is in the mountains, on the beach or in a forest, vacation homes provide you with the relaxing experience of being in these beautiful environments. Since we are usually away from these holiday homes, we will eventually need to touch them up with a few DIY or renovation projects.

Currently, if you are looking to repair or liven up your holiday house, why not consider adding an indoor garden space or a functional wooden garage. These projects mentioned above serve different purposes but both contribute to your comfort on vacation and bring value to your home.

Create an Indoor Garden and Entertainment Space

Bringing greenery into your vacation home can match any natural background. Making an indoor garden space caters to the greenery and is the spot where you can enjoy a morning coffee and unwind during the holiday.

Choosing the Right Space

In order to build your indoor garden, you will need the space for it. The garden will need a good amount of light either separate from your home or the sunroom of your house or even an enclosed patio.

Selecting the Right Plants

Choose the plants that connect with your personality. If you’re looking for more tropical plants like ferns, birds of paradise, and if you're ambitious, palm trees. These give more of a paradise beach vibe.

If you are into other types of plants, why not rather use potted plants, succulents, and specifically for the beach area, coastal friendly plants like aloe vera and sea grapes.

Enhancing the Space with Functional Features

Now that your indoor garden area has plants that you like, think about the more functional elements of the space, even if it’s just used for relaxation. Perhaps you would like to add a bar and seating area or a gas barbeque when you feel like making food outside.

If you would like to opt for the indoor bar, make it tropical with appropriate plants, decor and wicker chairs and tables. This can be the space where you host guests or family and serve up exotic cocktails, if that is your fancy.

If you prefer grilling, a barbeque is the set up for you. You’ll just need to ensure that you have enough ventilation in the space in order to avoid smoking the area out. The only other suggestion would be to make sure there is a light focused on the grill for those evening dinners as headlamps are cumbersome.

A More Practical Project: The Boarded Garage Transformation

If you are looking for something more practical for the holiday home, instead of building an indoor garden room, make a boarded garage. This useful addition can do much more than store your car, depending on how you design it.

Benefits of a Boarded Garage

A garage can be used to store cars and items, but if designed correctly, it can also be used as a project workspace or hobby room. Whatever the case, be creative with the space.

Setting Up the Space Efficiently

If this garage area is where your new project workspace will be, organize it for its intended use. For instance, you can mount a wall rack to store tools, have a pegboard for planning next to it, and shelves for your activity gear or equipment.

If you are looking for more space, install overhead racks to store everything, as a bonus this keeps your floor from being too dirty.

If you are good with your hands and household tools, it may be handy for you to have a workbench here to build or repair things around the house, like damaged furniture.

Turning It into a Multi-Purpose Area

Making a home gym in your garage is a common practice, as stated above, there are many ways to store equipment like weights or yoga mats. However, if you are more into art, you can make the space work for you, clearing the floor and setting up a painting station to allow you to go wild.

Climate Control and Comfort

Garages often vary in temperature as vacation homes are usually set in places where the climate changes temperamentally or through the seasons. Because of this, installing ventilation and covering the walls with insulation will keep the temperature stable and the space cozy and less stuffy. If it gets too cold, a heater would be the simplest option.

Security and Smart Upgrades

A lot of our belongings, including our vehicles, are stored in our garages. Therefore installing a camera would be a simple security precaution to ensure your belongings are safe while you are away.

Which Project is Right for You?

Both of these projects mentioned are only two ways to bring a lively and welcome change to your vacation home. These projects all have their intended uses according to your preferences and how you plan to implement them on your property.

  • If you want a fun-loving, nature themed environment. You can use the first idea to create the perfect bar or grill in your garden room, complemented by tropical plants.
  • If you prefer functionality and practicality, a well-organized, multi-purpose boarded garage is the way to go.

No matter which project you choose, improving your vacation home is an investment in comfort and enjoyment. Whether you opt for a lush indoor retreat or a highly functional garage, these enhancements will ensure your getaway home remains a welcoming and versatile space for years to come.
