Project to curb river pollution in Pune likely to start in a month

PUNE: The project to curb river pollution is likely to start in a month. " The changes in the tenders made by the civic administration and other authorities have been approved by JICA. Now the tendering process is gathering pace," said mayor Murlidhar Mohol.

He said that the tendering process is now likely to be completed in four weeks. The actual ground work will start after that. The project is important for dealing with the water pollution in the rivers flowing through PMC areas.

The PMC has been planning to deal with the river pollution in Mula and Mutha rivers through this project. Money from international funding agency JICA has been sanctioned for this project, said officials.

Apart from curbing river pollution, cleaning and improvement of river beds, infrastructure for solid waste management are part of this project. 11 new new solid waste treatment plants are to be built.
