Project Restart latest: Arsenal and Tottenham wait on Premier League training return despite go-ahead

Tottenham and Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs who are not planning to resume group training until Wednesday, despite top-flight approval to begin no-contact sessions on Tuesday afternoon.

Clubs have "unanimously" approved safety protocols around a return to "Phase One", socially-distanced training and the Premier League will give the all-clear to begin sessions from 2pm, once they have received the results from the first round of testing.

Chelsea will complete testing of players and staff on Tuesday before undergoing non-contact drills.

Watford are also planning to wait, but West Ham and Crystal Palace will join Chelsea by resuming today with only players and staff who have tested negative able to attend.

The Premier League will announce on Tuesday afternoon how many positive tests have been returned and how many clubs have been affected, but without naming individuals or clubs.

Clubs expect to have around 40 people on site, including players and coaches, who must adhere to strict social-distancing and hygiene protocols.

Watford striker Troy Deeney has already said he will not be returning to training due to concerns over increased risk of coronavirus in BAME men and women . Spurs, whose manager Jose Mourinho and squad prefer to train in the morning, are expecting every fit first-team player to report.

Palace have acquired the use of the Kent Cricket site next door in order to comply with social distancing as their training ground was deemed unsuitable.

Players will park at the cricket facility, adjacent to their training ground and make their way onto the pitches from there in a "specially designed flow system" which would not have otherwise been possible.

A club statement read: "Upon arrival in designated parking areas, players will have their temperature taken in their cars, fill in a questionnaire on an app, and only when clear will they leave their vehicles – which are parked more than two metres from the next."
