Prohibition notice served as Chief Medical Officer joins police on patrol in Belfast City Centre

A Belfast City Centre business was served a prohibition notice last night as the Chief Medical Officer joined police on patrol.

PSNI officers were joined by the Chief Constable Simon Byrne and CMO Dr Michael McBride as they engaged with licenced premises in the city centre to see if they were adhering to the Covid-19 restrictions.

During the patrol one premises was alleged to have been breaching the legislation and was served a prohibition notice.

This means that it will be stopped from trading until the authorities deem otherwise.

Chief Constable Simon Byrne said: "On the beat last night with the Licensing Officer & colleagues inspecting premises in Belfast City Centre. Pleased to be joined by CMO Dr Michael McBride. Positive response from licensees, the vast majority following regs & doing great work. Working together to stop Covid-19.

"Unfortunately, while out with PSNI Belfast last night we had to issue one prohibition notice which resulted in Officers closing an establishment. It is vital that the NI Executive Covid-19 regulations are strictly followed in order to keep the community safe."
