‘Progrigio’ is the Prosecco and Pinot Grigio hydrid you need to try

Prosecco lovers were dealt some terrible news this week as the UK’s Wine and Spirit Trade Association warned of a dramatic price hike in the wake of Brexit.

Luckily, Asda has come to the rescue by inventing a brand new drink that’s just as fizzy and moreish, but costs a wallet-friendly £5.

Dubbed ‘Progrigio’, the budget bottle of booze is a clever mix of Prosecco and Pinot Grigio that looks and tastes just like the real deal.

Made by blending the Prosecco glera grape with Pinot Grigio, the Progrigio wine will ensure that Brits will still be clinking glasses with an affordable fizz come summer garden party season, despite the looming Prosecco price increase of up to 59p per bottle.

The dry wine is “crisp, fresh and delicately floral”, according to Asda, with “fruity aromas” and “a hint of sweetness at the finish.”

Just like regular Prosecco, the new drink is designed to be served in a flute glass and has a similar golden hue. The versatility of Progrigio also means it's also suitable as the base to a sparkling cocktail like a Bellini or a Spritz, should you fancy getting creative in the kitchen.

Luckily, you don’t even have to wait for Brexit to kick in to get your hands on a bottle - as Asda have alre selling the hybrid drink right now.

That’s all the excuse you need to crack open a celebratory bottle this weekend.
