'Professor Jasprit Bumrah should hold bowling lectures'

NEW DELHI: Lauding Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling performance against Punjab Kings, former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop said the Mumbai Indians' bowling spearhead is very knowledgeable about his skills, describing him as a "professor" of fast bowling.

Bishop believes Bumrah's knowledge, articulation and ability to swing the ball in both directions makes him an ideal mentor for aspiring seam bowlers.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Bishop wrote, "If I could anoint Jasprit Bumrah with a fast bowling PHD, I would. He is a terrific communicator, knowledgable & articulate. I’d then have him hold bowling lectures to young for aspiring seam bowlers across the country at all levels. I wouldn’t wait until he retired. #professor."

In the match against Punjab Kings, Bumrah showcased his mastery in his four-over spell of 3 for 21, dismissing Sam Curran, Rilee Rossouw and Shashank Singh in the process.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians were led by Suryakumar Yadav's impressive 78-run knock, which took them to a total of 192 for 7.

Bumrah's spell, along with Gerald Coetzee's 3/32, was instrumental in bowling Punjab Kings out for 183 in run-chase, despite a valiant fightback launched by Ashutosh Sharma's 28-ball 61 and Shashank's 41 off 25 balls.
