Professional dog trainer warns owners they have been holding leads wrong for years

A dog trainer reckons we have been holding our pet' s leads wrong for years.

Professional dog trainer Adam Spiveytook to TikTok with the viral trick.

He said by adopting a new technique, it will keep pets safer, according to Birmingham Live.

Sharing the correct way, he proved that we have been doing it wrong for a while.

TeamDogs reports Adam said to loop the lead over your thumb, ensuring it remains tight to your hand.

He said: “If it’s loose and the dog pulls, it’s going to snap your thumb, and if you don’t make a fist, it’s going to snap your thumb. You put it around the thumb, then make a fist - that way it’s going nowhere.”

Adam said: “If your dog goes running on long line or lunges, turn away from the dog and brace for impact, and you will be okay.”

On Tik Tok, people flocked to have their say, with pet owners, pooch lovers and dog fans left stunned by his revalation.

Adam was praised for sharing the trick, which some branded a "game changer".

Others claimed it felt "unbelievably safer".

Others reckoned they "could not believe" they had never been taught the correct method before.

And some other dog owners shared how they have adopted the method - and said it works a lot better than their previous technique.

All's well that ends well.
