Professional cleaners reveal how to clean your house according to your personality type for optimum results with minimal stress

A green, blue and white dining area with green and blue patterned wallpaper, a round table with green and white chairs, a blue and gold statement light fixture, a white and brown console table with a white jug and green vases under a framed artwork, and large bay windows with green and white blinds.

If knowing your personality type is the key to understanding yourself, surely it can also help the way you clean your house, too.

Cleaning experts certainly think so, recommending different techniques and tricks for every personality type, whether you're Type A (planner), B (creative), C (logical), or D (laid back).

Here, they share their cleaning tips for a sparkling space and explain the differences per personality type.

How to clean according to your personality type

Type A: The Planner

As a driven, competitive, organized and time-conscious personality type, Type A personalities benefit most from structured routine, says Karina Toner, cleaning expert and operations manager at Spekless.

'I recommend creating detailed cleaning checklists, using timed sessions, or maybe setting up a cleaning calendar,' she says. 'A room-by-room breakdown with measurable goals helps maintain momentum as they’re wired to thrive on defined plans and clear-cut wins.'

The different day, different room housekeeping schedule is great for this.

'This approach taps into their love of productivity and calm control,' she explains. 'Cleaning becomes another task to conquer, and putting clear systems in place helps reduce decision fatigue while delivering consistently high results.'

Karina recommends using the Clever Fox Planner available at Amazon for keeping routines streamlined and outlining cleaning schedules and checklists.

Scott Schrader, cleaning expert at CottageCare, adds, 'I would recommend using labeled bins and a label maker, such as the Brother P-Touch Label Maker available at Walmart, to keep everything organized.'

Type B: The Creative

Type B personalities are essentially the exact opposite of Type A personalities, and this difference should be reflected in the way you clean your home.

'Traditional routines most likely bore you,' says Scott. 'Rather than worry about a structure, I would recommend cleansing your spaces in short bursts, for twenty minutes at a time, with your favorite playlist on.'

Alternatively, you can try techniques such as the 'One Hour' cleaning method or focus on things you can clean in five minutes or less.

'The added benefit of a scented spray, such as Method's All-Purpose Cleaner in French Lavender, available at Walmart, lets you elevate the clean to more of a vibe than a chore,' adds Scott.

Jessica Gonzales, cleaning expert and COO at Sparkly Maid San Antonio, agrees with Scott and recommends listening to music, lighting your best candle, and cleaning whatever drawers your eye.

'This keeps it relaxed and not so overwhelming,' she says.

Type C: The Logical Thinker

As Karina says, 'For a Type C personality, cleaning is all about logic and consistency. They work best with a step-by-step, research-based cleaning strategy.

'A data-driven or research-backed approach will always appeal. I recommend organizing all cleaning supplies in a labeled, categorized system,' using a BLUE GINKGO Stackable Organizer Caddy available at Amazon, or a bestselling PHANCIR 2-Pack Under Sink Organizer available at Walmart.

'Then tackling each room methodically; for example, start by tidying up, then dust top-to-bottom, left-to-right, clean all surfaces with the right tools, disinfect touchpoints, then end with floors, always moving outward to avoid re-cleaning,' continues Karina.

'Cleaning feels best when it’s free of ambiguity. It offers the reassurance that things are being done right, not just done.

'Small details matter, and tools that enhance accuracy will always get used.'

For added efficiency, Scott also suggests investing in one of the best robot vacuums, recommending the bestselling eufy Robot Vacuum available at Amazon.

Type D: The Laid-Back One

For this personality type, 'Keep it simple,' says Scott, sticking to an achievable cleaning routine.

'While you’re watching something, multitask your cleaning. Stick to what’s digestible, such as Clorox wipes [available at Walmart] for quick surface cleans.

Karina adds that Type D personalities appreciate routines that are both predictable and emotionally low-impact.

'Familiarity is key,' she explains. 'A “clean as you go” routine helps too; wiping up spills immediately, making the bed every morning, and staying on top of clutter before it builds' to break the stages of clutter for good.

'The slower, steady approach helps keep anxiety at bay,' she explains.

'Instead of tackling messes in big, overwhelming waves, Type D personalities feel more at ease with a gentle, ongoing rhythm that blends into everyday life.'
