Professional bodybuilder Paul Poloczek has died aged 37 - just hours after competing in a championship.

The strongman, from Poland, had participated in the NPC Worldwide Championship in Germany shortly before his death.

A cause of death has not yet been established.

Mr Poloczek’s wife Kathrin DeNev announced the news on Instagam on Saturday.

She wrote: “Bodybuilding was your life. You are not forgotten, you live on in our hearts. We will love you forever.”

“I will do everything to keep your dream alive. Love you,” she wrote in a later post.

Mr Poloczek spent the majority of his life in Germany where he first took an interest in bodybuilding aged 16.

He won his first competition just a year later and later won second place at the German Championships in the Super-Heavyweight division in 2012.

Mr Poloczek received a professional card after triumphing in the Arnold Classic Amateur tournament in the US in 2017.

It follows a spate of deaths in the bodybuilding community in the past six months.

In April, bodybuilding champion Cedric McMillan died aged 44 after reportedly suffering a heart attack while running on the treadmill.

Bodybuilder Stacey Cummings died aged 31 last month after competing in the biknin division of the 2021 IFBB Texas Pro.
