Prof abused for stopping duck feeding at Lake

Kolkata: The head of the zoology department of Diamond Harbour Fakir Chand College, who was on her morning walk in Rabindra Sarobar on Sunday, saw a woman feeding ducks chicken, rice and stale rotis. When the professor approached her, mentioning the signboards put up by KMDA that feeding ducks on the Lake premises was not approved, the woman allegedly became physically abusive.

Sanjukta Chaudhuri, the zoology HOD and a resident of Lake Gardens, said, “I noticed a woman dumping stale chicken and rice in the water to feed the ducks. I was just approaching the spot saying this should not be done when the woman started shouting and even got physically abusive.”

“The woman kept abusing me in front of the security guards. Senior citizens then came forward to intervene,” Chaudhuri said. She later informed KMDA about the matter.

“The guards have been instructed not to allow the woman to feed ducks from Monday,” said a KMDA official.
