PRODUCT SHOWCASE: New AP Courses & Credit Recovery Program Added to Cost-Effective PBL Curriculum

When done right, project-based learning (PBL) has proven to help students develop the soft skills they need to succeed for a variety of future careers. Instead of just memorizing and regurgitating facts, the hands-on experiences offered in PBL programs give students unique experiential opportunities to really dig into a variety of academic concepts.

Centric Learning has long been at the forefront of the PBL movement, offering live and asynchronous courses, as well as tutoring, AP courses, and accelerated credit recovery options.

With Centric Learning's PBL curriculum, students work on a project over an extended period of time – from a week up to a semester – that engages them in solving a real-world problem or answering a complex question. They demonstrate their knowledge and skills by developing a public product or presentation for a real audience.

New for 2024, Centric is offering Advanced Placement (AP) courses for English Language & Composition, Microeconomics, and Environmental Science. Additionally, Centric is releasing a new accelerated high school credit recovery option with pre-testing.

Public, private, and charter schools use Centric's curriculum (and even certified teachers) for grades 3-12. Some schools utilize a single subject area and take advantage of hands-on blended projects with their own school staff, while others utilize Centric's full program for traditional and at-risk student populations.

Centric offers everything from AP and Honors courses for traditional and advanced students, to accelerated credit recovery courses with pre-test options. The PBL and competency-based assessment formats make Centric's curriculum unique and engaging.

Both the new AP courses and the credit recovery options will complement the existing Centric PBL curriculum available to students around the world. For example, are your students interested in civil engineering? In the project “Making Our Community Accessible,” middle school students learn about right triangles and the Pythagorean theorem while designing an ADA-compliant wheelchair ramp for their community.

Centric Learning’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Maidie Baker says, “We are excited to offer three new AP courses as part of our PBL curriculum. Engaging in AP coursework not only offers a competitive advantage for students, these courses also allow students to develop critical thinking skills, improve time management, and better prepare them for the academic challenges they will face in college.”

“Centric Learning’s new accelerated credit recovery options offer an affordable and flexible solution for meeting high school graduation requirements,” says Michelle Hucal, director of sales and marketing. “Students start by taking a pre-test to determine what standards they are already proficient in, and then Centric automatically designs a personalized sequence of projects to guide the student.”

With Centric Learning’s Live Online Classes, schools and districts can provide uninterrupted, top-tier online project-based learning. The combination of certified expertise, assured engagement, flexible scheduling, and cost-effectiveness makes Centric Learning a valuable partner in shaping the future of education.
