Prodigy star Keith Flint gets banging send-off with firework display after funeral

He was the original Firestarter – so it’s only fitting Keith Flint’s wake went off with a bang.

The Prodigy founder’s 1996 chart-topper was blasted out during a 10-minute firework display after his funeral.

Pals including bandmate Liam Howlett as well as All Saints stars Natalie, 45, and Nicole Appleton, 44, cheered during Friday’s send off at Chelmsford City Racecourse, near the rave legend’s home.

Kate Moss’s best pal Fran Cutler was there, captioning a recording of the send off: “The last farewell to Keef. RIP.”

One mourner told me: “It was a magical occasion and there was a lot of effort put into it. As the music began, the fireworks display started and everyone was cheering.

“It was emotional but seemed like the perfect send-off. Let’s just say there are going to be a lot of hangovers.”

Keith, 49, was found dead at his home on March 4. Before the wake, a huge crowd of fans gathered in Braintree, Essex, to celebrate the rocker’s life.

A horse-drawn hearse began its one and a half mile journey to St Mary’s Church in Bocking at 3pm.

His bandmates walked behind the coffin into the church. Liam could be seen carrying Keith’s belt over his shoulder as fans cheered and applauded in tribute.

Beginning the service, the Reverend Rod Reid said: “The fact we are here today for his funeral is surreal.

“But we can celebrate his life and raise the roof.”

And that they did.
