The Proclaimers have declared their support for Alex Salmond’s Alba Party.
In a video, Craig and Charlie Reid urge people to vote for the former first minister and his fellow candidates on May 6.
It’s a huge coup for Salmond, who is hoping to be elected on the North East regional list.
The Reid twins are long-time SNP supporters.
But Nicola Sturgeon has been involved in a bitter feud with her former mentor and will be disappointed with the brothers’ move.
Charlie said: “We’re the Proclaimers and we’re backing Alba in the Scots Parliament Elections in May.
“We want to build as big a majority as possible towards putting pressure on Westminster to grant IndyRef 2.”
Craig added: “Vote Alba on your list vote.”
The Proclaimers gave permission for two of their most popular hits to be rewritten in support of the SNP.
New versions of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) and Letter From America were created for the 2019 General Election.
Kenny MacAskill, Alba’s No1 candidate on the Lothians list, said: “Charlie and Craig are lifelong independence supporters.
“This will be a tremendous boost to Alba’s campaign to persuade people to make both votes count for independence.”
The SNP said: “The only way to ensure Scotland’s future is in Scotland’s hands is by giving both votes to the SNP.
Yesterday, SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon joined an Easter egg hunt in Glasgow’s Ruchill Park.
