An investigation has been launched into the cause of a huge fire which ripped through an industrial unit in Wythenshawe.

There were ten fire engines on the scene at the height of the blaze last night, as fire fighters worked to bring it under control.

Fire crews remained at Roundthorn Industrial Estate this morning damping down.

Eyewitnesses described hearing a 'loud explosion' as the blaze took hold, at about 9.20pm yesterday.

Footage showed huge flames rising from an industrial unit, sending large plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

The fire spread to the first and second floor of the industrial premises.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just one fire engine remains at the scene of a fire at an industrial unit on Tilson Road, Manchester, this morning (Saturday 19 February).

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked hard throughout the night to tackle the blaze and successfully bring it under control using hose reels, ground monitors, a jet, and other specialist equipment and appliances.
