Probe launched as worker 'seriously injured' after accident on Scots fishing ship

A probe has been launched after a crew member was 'seriously injured' after an accident on a Scots fishing ship.

The Annie E, a utility vessel built in 2017, was sailing near the Isle of Muck in the Inner Hebrides when disaster struck last month.

The Maritime Accident Investigations Branch (MAIB) have launched an investigation into how the crew member was injured on April 3.

In a brief outline of the probe, the body says that a crew member suffered 'serious injury' after lifting equipment failed on the fish farm support boat.

A description of the accident reads: "Serious injury to crew member following the failure of part of the equipment during lifting operations on board a fish farm support workboat near the Island of Muck, Inner Hebrides, Scotland"

The probe by the MAIB comes after accident on board a massive polar research ship that was originally named the Boaty McBoatface by the public as it sailed in a Scots loch.

Two people were injured in the incident that happened on March 5 during sea trials ahead of its ventures to the South Pole.

The Maritime Accident Investigations Branch confirmed they were reviewing the accident during a lifeboat drill on the vessell - now called the RRS Sir David Attenborough - on Loch Buie on the Isle of Mull.

That incident is still under investigation.
